The Weekend

I was just reading that the weekend, here in the states, wasn't the weekend until 1940. Wow. Wasn't the weekend mentioned in the bible? "Then, on the evening of the 5th day, god said let there be happy hour. God and his coworkers spent happy hour at the mad amigo and it was good. . ."

Maybe its the young-smart-ass-punk-hippie in me, but I cannot fathom life without a weekend. WITHOUT A WEEKEND! Now, I know not all people have the ability to celebrate the traditional weekend-early Friday afternoon, till late Sunday night. Even if one has to work the weekend, they are usually thrown 2 free days somewhere in the mix. Most of the time. Well, at my last job I had to work every other Saturday, 830am-12pm. And you know where I was working? Communist Russia, circa 1979. I made those giant fuzzy fur hats that are all the rage with Russian population of (drunken)men. Viva! Ivan Drago!

Actually, I wouldn't mind extending the weekend. Say Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The employers are still winning, 65-35. Who the hell said we had to work 5 days a week anyway? I realize our "production" is what makes the world go round, economy wise, and I think 5 days a week was mentioned in a song, but christ, what is money if we can't enjoy it?

So, come and join me, and start your weekend with me, in 7 hours; Give or take a lunch.
